The Accounting Bureau at the Idaho Department of Labor has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Financial Specialist, Senior. This position is located in our central office in Boise Idaho. Duties for this position include direct supervision of financial technicians and financial technician seniors. The ideal candidate has strong financial skills, and analytical approach to problem solving, excellent communication skills, attention to detail and the ability to work independently and on a team.

Job Responsibilities

  • Oversee the agency’s cashiering unit, ensuring that all deposits are timely and accurately coded.

  • Oversee entry of employer reports into iUS, the department’s Unemployment Insurance programmatic system.

  • Oversee entry of receipts into BOISE, the department’s Benefit Overpayment system.

  • Oversee the payment of unemployment insurance benefits, ensuring benefit payments are issued timely and accurately, including the processing of offline checks.

  • Ensure adequate internal controls are in place for all functions related to the unit.

  • Ensure that all processes related to the unit are properly documented, procedures are available and easy to follow, and that all staff are properly trained in their duties.

  • Ensure that sufficient back-up exists for every function in the unit.

  • Staff development and performance management.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Good knowledge of accounting principles and practices. Must have at least four years of professional work experience as an accountant, or equivalent, applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) OR an Associate's degree in accounting AND at least two years of professional work experience as an accountant or equivalent.

  • Experience developing and preparing financial documents. Must have one year of full-time work experience.

  • Experience using a personal computer to develop, analyze and report on financial data. Must have one year of work experience using a personal computer to develop, analyze and report on financial data as a regularly assigned job duty. (Experience tracking personal finances and using home financial software would not qualify.)

  • Experience analyzing financial activities and recommending management action. Must have one year of full-time work experience.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience supervising a unit of 5-6 employees.

  • Knowledge of accounting practices for receipts, cash handling, or other similar practices.
