Department of Labor Project Coordinator/Western NY Regional Representative - Western Region - External Affairs in Buffalo, New York

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience.PREFERRED QUALIFICATION: Ability to initiate and maintain relationships across a diverse set of stakeholders.Duties DescriptionSTANDARD DUTIES: As a member of the External Affairs team, the Western NY Regional Representative will represent the Commissioner’s interest in all activities within the assigned region. The incumbent of the position will serve as the Department's regional liaison for departmental programs and initiatives and issues related to departmental programs.Specific functions may include but are not limited to the following:• Maintain relationships with state and local elected representatives, unions, community colleges and local government agencies.• Act as regional liaison with the Governor’s regional staff and other state agency regional representatives.• Facilitate the creation of industry partnerships for in demand occupation.• Participate in state initiatives, taskforce committees and workgroups and other initiatives as developed and requested.• Work closely with Labor Market Analyst and DOL Business Service representatives in your region to review job market trends.• Aid colleagues in Economic Development with information regarding demographics and commutability for the region.• Develop linkages and partnerships with organized labor groups for training or re-training workers potentially impacted by change or job loss.• Serve as Commissioner’s representative with state and local government including regional boards, as necessary.• Resolve issues or concerns raised by local government officials related to all Department of Labor programs and services.• Work with other DOL officials to provide local representatives and employers with a clear understanding of labor laws.• Provide feedback to the Commissioner of Labor on issues and concerns raised in the region and provide positive suggestions on resolution of identified problems.• Be the point of contact for making suggestions for events, including planning and developing opportunities for the Commissioner to visit the region.• Plan and staff Departmental events when necessary.Notes on ApplyingAll candidates must submit a written resume and cover letter which clearly demonstrates how they meet the minimum qualifications for the position.
