Overview We are seeking to hire an expert in the taxonomy of high alpine aquatic invertebrates in the Intermountain West. The position will include collecting trips into rugged areas of Utah and the Intermountain West as well as sorting and identifying of collected specimens.

This position is eligible for hybrid work within the state of Utah

Responsibilities

  • Support collection of aquatic invertebrates in high mountain watersheds
  • Identify specimens
  • Provide summary taxonomic information
  • Hike in rugged, often high-elevation terrain while carrying equipment

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:

  • A MS or higher in Ecology or a related field
  • Expert knowledge of aquatic invertebrates in mountain streams of the Intermountain West, including potentially sensitive species
  • Valid driver's license

Advertised Salary $22.00 per hour

ADA The environment and physical requirements may change depending on the specific function of the work performed. Incumbents may be in both indoor and outdoor environments. Indoors, in an office space, event space, or public space are protected from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes. Incumbents may nearly continuously sit and often use repetitive hand motion (such as typing).

Outdoors, this position requires considerable physical activity.  Employees must have sufficient strength to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position including heavy lifting (up to 40 lbs.) and/or pushing, pulling and carrying of heavy objects. Employees must be prepared to assume uncomfortable positions, such as crawling, kneeling, and squatting.  Employees work outside and will not be protected from weather conditions, including extreme cold and extreme heat for extended periods.
