Los Alamos National Laboratory Computational Protein Modeling and Design Postdoc in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

The Bioscience Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is seeking outstanding candidates for a postdoctoral research associate position in protein structural modeling. The position is available immediately. The successful candidate will work closely with a team of staff scientists, postdoctoral researchers and technicians as part of a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary research project that combines machine learning with protein modeling, structural and functional characterization. The candidate should have a strong background in macromolecular structural modeling, especially protein modeling and protein design.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Experience with macromolecular structural modeling

  • Proven skills in homology modeling

  • Experience with Rosetta, Alpha Fold and molecular dynamics simulations

  • Deep knowledge of physical properties of proteins/peptides

  • Excellent communication and writing skills in the English language as evidenced by a strong publication record

  • Ability and eagerness to work in a collaborative team environment

Education/Experience: Ph.D. in a relevant STEM field such as computational Biology, Chemistry, or Physics completed within the last 5 years.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Deep knowledge in protein modeling

  • Experience with enhanced sampling methods, multi-scale simulation and flexible docking

  • Experience with modeling proteins using alternative disulfide bond patterns

  • Experience with protein/peptide binder design

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

LANL postdoctoral researchers start with a minimum annual salary of $94,500. Exceptional candidates may be considered for a Director's Fellowship and outstanding candidates may be considered for the prestigious Dianne Christian Hoffman, Richard P. Feynman, J. Robert Oppenheimer, or Frederick Reines Fellowships.

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 (https://directives.nnsa.doe.gov/supplemental-directive/sd-0206-0002) . Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
