The Staff Engineer-Technology Analyst will participate in identifying and analyzing new technologies that support the future products required for Generac's medium- and long-term goals. The role will require participation in the creation of a technology portfolio in consensus with the strategic direction of the company. Technology areas of interest include energy storage, power generation, carbon reduction, and grid edge systems. As part of the Advanced Commercial Technology group this position reports to the Director of Engineering.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain a technology portfolio for application to future products.

  • Develop a database for calculations comparing relevant technologies.

  • Incorporate cost analysis into models.

  • Use tools such as MATLAB/Simulink to create models for system optimization.

  • Develop electrical and mechanical physical modeling for simulation.

  • Review intellectual property around candidate technologies.

  • Establish and maintain key external relationships with consultants, suppliers, national laboratories, and Academic partners to understand technology trends and increase organization's technical capabilities.

  • Establish themself as a mentor to less-experienced members of the organization.

Minimal Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or directly equivalent degree

  • 6 years of relevant work experience or advanced degree equivalency in Engineering

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree or PhD in Engineering or directly equivalent degree

  • 2 years' experience working with power generation products

  • Understanding for multi-disciplinary physics/engineering

  • Experience developing technology analysis reports

  • Experience with data visualization tools

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Physical modeling experience using tools such as MATLAB/Simulink

  • Good working knowledge of physics/chemical equations and physical units

  • Ability to solve complex engineering problems

  • Strong decision-making skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Physical demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion, the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend, or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
